Biebs and Cruise Update

Last week we discussed the potential MMA fight between Justin Bieber and Tom Cruise. Bieber in a random, unexpected and baffling tweet challenged Tom to a fight in the UFC, he then generated more attention by including Dana White in the tweet. Some believed that this fight would be one of the biggest celebrity fights. Although egging Tom on, saying he would prove scared if he didn’t accept the match, it appears Justin now has egg on his face, as he seems to be backing down.

The Retraction

Justin Bieber tried to reabsorb his challenge by saying that he was only kidding and that Tom Cruise would probably “whoop” his “ass”. Sounds like a five-year-old saying, “I was just joking, Dad” when he realises he has pushed his father too far and would be the recipient of hiding. The Biebs might be a little frightened himself as Tom Cruise is known to work out to keep in top physical form.

Is Tom up to the challenge?

I think Biebs was so quick to backtrack because rumour has it, via the grapevine, that Top Gun Tom is down to fight Baby Biebs in the octagon. Let’s stay calm and not get too excited until we have heard it straight from the horse’s mouth because Tom has yet to respond publicly. As mature as rebuffing the challenge might be, the fight would be amazing to watch, no denying that.

Celebrity Challenges

UFC Big Boss, Dana White has admitted to seeing this kind of challenge all too often. Lots of people are all bark no bite, saying they would fight someone in the UFC, but it usually doesn’t come to pass. Just following Justin’s tweet, Connor McGregor, just as randomly, challenges Mark Wahlberg in an attempt to hop on the celebrity fight bandwagon.

Butt kicking, MMA Trained Celebrities

In 2013 Ryan Gosling started practising Muay Thai to get into shape for his role in “Only God Forgives”, and he still attends classes today. Like Ryan Gosling, Kevin James also trained in Muay Thai in preparation for a role and continues to practice even after “Here comes the boom”. Ed O’Neill, aka Ted Bundy in “Love and marriage” or Jay in “Modern Family”, was awarded his black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu by Rorion Gracie in 2007. With over 20 years of training, this old timer is not one to be messed with, although fighting him might also be tempting to Biebs. Another celebrity big into Brazillian Jiu Jitsu is Wesley Snipes. He started training in Martial Arts at 12 years old and today has black belts in Hapkido and Shotokan Karate. Surprise, surprise, back in the day, Tommy Cruise was in his high school wrestling team, that was a long time ago, but it has to count for something.
