Anderson Silva Confirms Retirement Via Instagram

Throughout the last twenty-four hours, speculation has regarded if Anderson Silva will compete in another league of mixed martial arts like Bellator MMA. It’s been confirmed a day after losing to Uriah Hall at UFC Vegas 12, that Anderson Silva is retiring from combative sports. An official announcement was made by “The Spider” via Instagram, where he’d admit that saying Uriah Hall was his last fight is challenging but that it’s time to leave the sport.

It’s not surprising that Anderson Silva is leaving combative sports. After losing the Middleweight Championship in 2013, Silva has seen a downwards spiral that’s diminished his legendary status in mixed martial arts. This Middleweight Champion maintains the longest-winning history in the UFC, holding his belt for 2000+ days. Age would inevitably inflict Anderson Silva & each year growing older would make his formidable fighter somewhat weaker.

Nearing the age of forty saw an entirely different Silva, who cowered after the 4th Round TKO from Uriah Hall. Anderson grabbed onto the legs of Referee Herb Dean helplessly & hardly could stand during the Post-Fight interviews. It showed that Anderson Silva’s stamina has diminished tenfold and isn’t capable of what the UFC requires. The former Middleweight Champion did showcase his skillsets one final time for dedicated supporters, with the 1st Round awarded to Silva after his flurry of punches against Uriah Hall.

Silva Says Goodbye

Anderson Silva issued an official statement via Instagram. Anderson said goodbye to professional mixed martial arts, a combative sport he’s dedicated himself to for decades. He would thank all the supporters that stood by him for years & his team that never gave up. Love was then expressed for his family & friends, then towards gods for giving him the capability to fight. He’d end his statement by hoping throughout his career that he’d shown supporters they can overcome difficulties & uncertainties, that obstacles are hurdles that can be jumped.

These saddening sentiments were met with effusive praise from dedicated supporters. Numerous fans mentioned their experiences associated with how Anderson Silva assisted them in overcome lifelong difficulties. It was an emotional goodbye that few UFC fighters have ever received.
