Bellator MMA Signs Yoel Romero

Supporters of mixed martial arts were disappointed when learning the Ultimate Fighting Championship had eliminated Yoel Romero from it’s roster. The elimination followed after UFC President Dana White announced that 60 fighters are being removed to avoid monetary losses, with Yoel Romero being the first terminated. It’d take less than two weeks for Romero to locate another franchise willing to contract his talents. It’s been announced that Bellator MMA has signed Yoel Romero at 43-Years-Old. Contract negotiations between Romero & Bellator weren’t detailed financially, with it being known he’ll compete on a multi-fight agreement.

Yoel Romero wasn’t the first choice for Bellator MMA, with discussions initially held for Coker, another fighter terminated from the UFC. Details noted that Coker denied Bellator’s offer. Bellator MMA determined that the skillsets of Romero were needed, which worked in his favour. Bellator MMA is the second most popular combative sport & direct rival for the UFC. Acquiring a prominent fighter that sustained several years in the UFC is beneficial for Bellator, with this agreement also showing UFC President Dana White that Romero isn’t retiring yet.

Coker emphasised after learning Yoel Romero had been contracted that further dialogue is possible, meaning there’s an opportunity Coker will stand alongside Romero on the same roster again. Some MMA analysts question if Bellator MMA will acquire a large percentage of the fighters that leave Dana White’s Ultimate Fighting Championship. It’d potentially enable a dynamic shift in which tournament holds more popularity. Bellator MMA has worked diligently towards defeating the UFC in broadcasting viewership, which hasn’t been accomplished for years.
