Mike Perry’s UFC Future Discussed by Dana White

The president of the UFC, Dana White, was recently interviewed about the future of the UFC and one of its key fighters after UFC 255 last weekend. The focus of the interview was on “Platinum” Mike Perry and what his future holds going forward in the UFC.

UFC 255 was Perry’s first return to the Octagon since earning a unanimous decision over Mickey Gall in July of this year. Perry was placed on the main card and went on to lose to challenger Tim Means, who was brought in as a last minute replacement. The loss to a lesser known fighter is not good news for Perry, who now has a 7 win, 7 loss record with the UFC.

The less than impressive record, along with his personal issues outside the UFC, is bringing attention to his future, and it looks uncertain going forward. However, Dana White was hesitant to suggest that Perry would be dropped from future fights in the Octagon, and in fact, White commented that he appreciated Perry’s fighting style stating it is entertaining, whether in defeat or victory.

During the interview, White stated he felt that Perry was tough and fun to watch. He added that what he likes about Perry is he always tries to win fights, especially the one last weekend. White added that he is unsure what it means or where Perry will go within the organization but that as a fighter, he is fun to watch.

Perry was riding an impressive decision

Prior to heading into UFC 255, Perry was on a high after winning by decision against Mickey Gall. The win was impressive and showed Perry has the skills needed to compete at the level required within the UFC. Perry was on top of his grappling skills versus focusing on striking, and that was key to his victory.

The win comes after Perry had two back-to-back losses in the welterweight division, one against Geoff Neal and the other against Vicente Luque. The problem for Perry is what takes place outside the Octagon, not so much inside it. In the last 12 months, Perry has been involved in several altercations, one of which involved accusations by his ex-wife of domestic violence.

In terms of positive news, UFC fighter Perry and his current girlfriend, Latory Gonzalez announced they are expecting a child together in 2021. What the future holds for Perry, other than becoming a father will have to wait to be seen. However, from Whites perspective, his time with the UFC is far from over.
