UFC Terminates Contract for Jussier Formiga

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has made numerous changes into their roster for the 2020 & 2021 season, with multiple fighters losing their contract with profits dwindling for Dana Whites infamous MMA league. The latest competitor to lose their contract is Jussier Formiga, which for long-time supporters is an upsetting announcement.

Jussier Formiga first joined the UFC roster in 2012, competing against notable fighters like Henry Cejudo & Dustin Ortiz. Memorable bouts throughout his career included UFC 229 against Sergio Pettis, where Formiga won via unanimous decision. Jussier witnessed his final victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship on March 23rd, 2019. Competing on “UFC Fight Night 148” against Deiveson Figueredo saw another victory via unanimous decision. After that bout came three consecutive losses for Jussier Formiga, prompting his release from the UFC on November 16th.

Before joining the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Jussier Formiga competed in the “Shooto Bantamweight Championship – Brazil” and “Tachi Palace Fights Organization”. With his formidable experience in MMA, it’s expected that this 35-year-old Brazilian athlete will begin training the next generation in Portugal. Specific skillsets teachable by Jussier Formiga included Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Judo. Considering that his last victory was Deiveson Figueredo, the current 125lbs Division Champion, Jussier Formiga can retire knowing his prominence throughout the UFC sustained eight years with notable achievements. Few athletes that have joined this competition can state something similar.

No Belt for Formiga

There’ll be one unfortunate aspect that Jussier Formiga will likely regret about his career in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. This flyweight-division fighter couldn’t acquire the divisional belt, even though multiple opportunities were given against the likes of Ray Borg & Henry Cejudo. Portuguese & Brazilian UFC supporters will fondly remember the MMA career of Jussier Formiga. It should be clarified that Jussier Formiga hasn’t provided any updates on his future after the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
